Heavy unseasonal rain over the past two days has disrupted life across Gujarat, with Amreli district among the worst affected. Rajula taluka alone recorded nearly six inches of rainfall, causing severe flooding and cutting off road access in several areas.
The sudden rise in the Dhatarwadi river led to flood-like conditions in nearby villages, leaving many residents stranded.
In one dramatic incident from rural Rajula, a pregnant woman went into labour as floodwaters rose around her home. With roads completely submerged and no vehicle able to pass, locals used a JCB machine to carry her to safety. She was carefully transported through the flooded stretch and admitted to the hospital, where she delivered her baby safely thanks to the villagers’ timely help.
Meanwhile, in Kedsama village, around 50 farm labourers were trapped in fields after the Dhatarwadi overflowed into low-lying areas. MLA Hira Solanki, along with the Pipavav Marine Police, led rescue efforts and ensured that all workers were safely evacuated to higher ground.
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone regions to remain cautious as rescue teams continue to monitor the situation.
