Over 100 people fell sick in a suspected case of food poisoning in Gomta village of Wadhwan taluka, Surendranagar district, after consuming buttermilk served at a vastu puja event on Sunday.
The guests reportedly developed symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, and leg cramps after drinking the buttermilk.
The event was organised by Mahesh Patel, a local resident, to mark the inauguration of his new house. Around 600 people had attended the function and were served food and beverages.
Initially, the affected individuals were taken to nearby private clinics, but as their condition worsened, many were shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Surendranagar, RR Hospital in Limbdi, and other government hospitals for further treatment.
Health officials and local authorities rushed to the village and launched an investigation into the incident. Six medical teams were deployed to provide treatment and monitor the situation on-site.
