Gujarat’s State Highway Police, along with local police units, has identified 50 accident-prone black spots across the state that have witnessed a worrying number of fatal crashes in recent years. Between 2022 and 2024, these locations recorded around 300 major accidents, claiming 260 lives.To curb fatalities and traffic congestion during the festive season, the State Traffic Branch and Gujarat Road Safety Authority have strengthened safety measures and deployed 24-hour monitoring at these high-risk zones, especially on highways near urban areas.In major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, more than 1,000 people lose their lives annually in road accidents. While city police frequently monitor urban black spots, several highway stretches near city outskirts have also emerged as danger zones.

- Kerala GIDC Bridge, Ahmedabad – 10 accidents, 10 deaths
- Begwa Crossroads, Bagodra – 11 accidents, 5 deaths
- Trapaj Bypass Bridge, Bhavnagar – 3 accidents, 10 deaths
- Bhakharvada – 11 accidents, 11 deaths
- Varsada Cut, Valsad – 20 accidents, 14 deaths
- UPL Overbridge, Vapi GIDC – 11 accidents, 10 deaths
Other risky sites include Tarapur Bridge (Anand), Hanuman Tekri (Palanpur), Dharevada (Chhapi), and Mina Hotel Cut (Kosamba).
Authorities have assured round-the-clock police presence, special traffic control, and enhanced surveillance across all 50 identified black spots to ensure safer travel across Gujarat during Diwali and the upcoming festive season.
