Harsh Sanghavi, a rising star in Gujarat politics, has emerged as a key BJP leader and trusted confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. At just 40, he serves as Minister of State (MoS) for Home, a role once held by party heavyweights like Amit Shah and Pradipsinh Jadeja.
Sanghavi’s political journey has been rapid. He became Gujarat’s youngest MoS at 36, reflecting the central leadership’s trust in him. His rise is also strategically significant for the BJP, especially in election-sensitive Surat, a city that witnessed the 2015–16 Patidar quota agitation.
Entering the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in 2012 at 27 as the youngest MLA from Majura, Sanghavi quickly became a dominant figure. He retained his seat in 2017 and 2022, winning the latter by over 116,000 votes against the AAP’s PVS Sharma, cementing Surat as a BJP stronghold.
Nicknamed the “next Amit Shah of Gujarat,” Sanghavi is known for his hardline law-and-order approach. His tenure has seen strict policing, controversial campaigns like the 2025 Rander demolition drive, high-profile drug busts, initiatives like ‘Clean Tapi,’ and youth employment drives.
With an upcoming cabinet reshuffle expected to expand the team from 15 to 22–23 members, Sanghavi’s influence is likely to grow further, highlighting his strategic importance in Gujarat’s political landscape.
