A potential tragedy was narrowly avoided near Pandiapura village in Godhra taluka, Panchmahal district, on Monday afternoon after locals’ quick action prevented a train from hitting a broken high-tension power cable.
The 25,000 KV overhead railway cable snapped after being struck by stones from a nearby mine blast. Spotting a train approaching the live wire, villagers immediately waved their shirts to alert the loco pilot, who managed to halt the train in time, preventing a major accident.
The incident disrupted railway traffic between Godhra and Anand. Police and senior railway officials rushed to the site, overseeing restoration and initiating an inquiry into the incident.
