All 16 Gujarat Ministers Resign Ahead of Cabinet Expansion; ‘No-Repeat’ Formula Expected

Ahead of a major cabinet reshuffle in Gujarat, all 16 ministers—except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel—submitted their resignations on Thursday, paving the way for the formation of a new council of ministers.

According to a media report, during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, it was announced that the new cabinet will be sworn in at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Following the oath-taking ceremony, the first meeting of the newly formed cabinet will be held under Patel’s leadership.

The BJP is expected to apply its ‘no-repeat’ formula, similar to the 2021 reshuffle, meaning most outgoing ministers may not be reappointed. The induction of a deputy chief minister is also under consideration.

While there is no fixed schedule for a cabinet expansion, the timing is typically determined by the Chief Minister and the party’s top leadership, based on political strategy and governance priorities.

The new cabinet is likely to comprise 23 ministers, ensuring a balance of experience, youth, gender, and community representation. As per reports, the composition may include:

  • 6 Patidar leaders (4 Leuva and 2 Kadva)
  • 4 OBC MLAs (from Thakor and Koli communities)
  • 2 Scheduled Caste (SC) and 2 Scheduled Tribe (ST) members
  • 2 Brahmin and 2 Kshatriya leaders
  • Around 4 women MLAs, combining both young and seasoned representatives.

The BJP aims to present a diverse and inclusive cabinet, reflecting its broader political and social outreach across Gujarat.
