SBI announces 30% job reservation for women to boost female workforce

State Bank of India (SBI) has unveiled a 30% job reservation for women, aiming to significantly increase female representation in its workforce over the next five years. The move comes alongside plans to expand all-women branches, reflecting the bank’s commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality in the workplace.

Currently, women make up 33% of SBI’s frontline staff, but their overall representation in the bank stands at 27%. Deputy Managing Director Kishore Kumar said the new initiative seeks to bridge this gap and encourage greater participation of women at all levels, including leadership roles.

To support women employees, SBI is introducing several initiatives:

  • Creche allowance for working mothers
  • Special training for women returning from leave to prepare them for leadership positions
  • Health-focused schemes, including breast and cervical cancer screenings and a nutrition allowance for pregnant staff

SBI currently operates over 340 all-women branches and plans to expand this number in the coming years, further strengthening its efforts to create an inclusive and supportive work environment for female professionals.
