Work on rebuilding the 100-year-old Sarangpur Railway Overbridge (ROB) near Kalupur Railway Station has picked up pace. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) began the project in November 2024 after the old bridge, built in 1922, was declared unsafe.
The bridge links Ambedkar Chowk on the west to Rakhial Road on the east. Once completed, it will be widened from four to six lanes and integrated with the Kalupur Station Redevelopment Project’s elevated road network, helping reduce traffic congestion in the busy area.
The bridge, which spans 497 metres with a 107-metre railway section, is being rebuilt using a modified bowstring girder design. According to RLDA officials, all 132 piles have been completed, and around 80% of the substructure work is done.
