Primary school teachers under the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have raised strong objections after being asked to attend compulsory government programmes during the ongoing first-term examinations. The move has sparked outrage among educators and prompted a written complaint to the City Primary Education Committee.
Teachers were instructed to report to their zone offices at 3:30 pm during the ‘Vikas Saptah’ celebrations in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Students were also required to participate in activities such as writing postcards, drawing, and competitions.
In their complaint, the teachers’ union highlighted that the first term has already been disrupted by various programmes, weeks, and centenary celebrations, affecting classroom learning. “Teachers are being pulled from classes, and students are losing valuable academic time during exams,” the union said.
It is estimated that around 2,000 teachers were called for the event, raising concerns about whether the focus should be on supervising exams or attending government programmes. The directive to involve students in extra activities has triggered strong protests from teachers, who demand that academic schedules be respected in the future.
