The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of 78 days for 10.91 lakh non-gazetted railway employees, amounting to ₹1,865.68 crore. The bonus, paid annually before Durga Puja/Dussehra, will benefit staff such as loco pilots, guards, station masters, track maintainers, supervisors, technicians, pointsmen, and ministerial staff. Each eligible employee will receive up to ₹17,951.
The incentive comes in recognition of Indian Railways’ strong performance in 2024–25, when it transported a record 1,614.90 million tonnes of freight and 7.3 billion passengers.
Alongside, the Cabinet cleared key infrastructure projects:
Doubling of the 104-km Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya line in Bihar at a cost of ₹2,192 crore, improving rail connectivity to Rajgir, Nalanda, Pawapuri, and boosting access for 1,434 villages across Gaya and Nawada districts.
Construction of a 4-lane Sahebganj–Areraj–Bettiah stretch of NH-139W in Bihar, covering 78.94 km under Hybrid Annuity Mode, with an investment of ₹3,822.31 crore.
A ₹69,725 crore package for the shipbuilding and maritime sector, focusing on shipbuilding, financing, and domestic capacity expansion under a four-pillar strategy.Cabinet Approves 78-Day Bonus for Railway Staff
