The Ministry of Civil Aviation plans to equip Keshod Airport with advanced navigational infrastructure once its runway extension to 2,500 metres is completed.
Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu informed Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani that the project includes installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS), a CAT-I Approach Lighting System, and DVOR facilities as part of the airport’s master plan.
The minister said the scope of work for extending the runway has already been issued and work awarded. Currently, the runway length is 1,300 metres, while ILS installation requires at least 1,800 metres.
Nathwani, in a letter to the ministry, highlighted frequent flight cancellations at Keshod Airport due to morning fog and lack of proper navigational aids. He noted that despite the airport’s revival to improve connectivity to Gir National Park and Somnath, poor infrastructure continues to affect its operations.
