The Gujarat High Court has directed the state government to curb cars with tinted windows, illegal parking, and wrong-side driving during Navratri, calling them serious public safety concerns.
A division bench of Justices A S Supehia and L S Pirzada issued the instructions while hearing a contempt petition on civic issues, including stray cattle, broken roads, and traffic chaos. The court stressed that black films on car windows could be misused during the festival and must be strictly prohibited.
Authorities informed the court that special drives are underway against wrong-side driving, tinted windows, and numberless vehicles. In recent weeks, 86 FIRs have been filed, and 1.13 lakh e-challans worth 2.43 crore issued. Citizens now have 90 days to clear dues at new e-challan centres.
The government assured the court that special traffic arrangements are being made near major garba venues, with police and civic agencies working together to avoid chaos. The next hearing is scheduled for next week.
