The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday announced that students must have at least 75% attendance to be eligible for Class 10 and 12 board examinations.
In its circular, CBSE clarified that Classes 10 and 12 are two-year programmes — covering Classes 9 & 10 and 11 & 12 respectively — and students must study all subjects for both years to qualify for the exams.
Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, said internal assessments under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 form an essential part of evaluation. “If a student does not attend school, their internal assessment cannot be completed. Without this, results cannot be declared,” he explained.
Students failing to meet the attendance requirement will be placed in the ‘Essential Repeat Category.’ They will also not be eligible to take additional subjects in board exams as private candidates.
