The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has detected large-scale irregularities in its online vehicle tax payment system, where dealers allegedly uploaded fake or unrelated documents—such as Aadhaar or PAN cards, blurred invoices, or bills with lower amounts—while paying taxes on behalf of citizens.
To curb this, AMC will now issue online notices directly to such dealers through their login accounts. If they fail to comply, their registrations will be canceled.
Meanwhile, AMC has announced strict action against owners of high-end vehicles worth over 25 lakh who have not paid vehicle tax. Their names and vehicle numbers will be made public, and in cases of non-payment, their vehicles may be seized.
Revenue Committee chairman Aniruddhsinh Zala said that nearly 15,000 vehicles in Ahmedabad were found to have defaulted on tax in 2023. A fresh survey of luxury cars is underway, and strict recovery measures will follow.
