Ahmedabad witnessed yet another reckless hit-and-run on Thursday night, this time involving a black BMW X7. Around 8.30 pm, 35-year-old Yagnik Suthar of New Ranip was hit while crossing the Zundal-Vaishnodevi Circle road near Sarvottam Hotel on his bike.
Suthar, employed at a private firm on Sindhu Bhavan Road, sustained a head injury and deep leg wounds. A 108 emergency team rushed him to SMS Hospital, where he is reported to be stable and alert.
Police traced the BMW (GJ18BS9999) to Gandhinagar resident Ashok Dobriya. However, the driver remains unidentified. The luxury car, registered in December 2022, reportedly lacks an RTO NOC and carries a VIP number plate.
L Division PI Sunita Patel said CCTV footage and witness statements are being examined to confirm who was driving. ACP (Traffic) S J Modi added that technical surveillance and forensic methods are being used to ensure accountability.
The case adds to a rising spate of fatal and serious hit-and-runs in Ahmedabad. On September 1, a delivery agent was killed in Shela by a speeding Thar; in July, a Mercedes injured two footballers on SG Highway; and earlier this year, multiple lives were lost in similar crashes across the city.
With the surge in such incidents, police have stepped up monitoring and pledged strict action once the driver is identified.
