From September 16 to November 11, all autos and taxis in Ahmedabad must display the vehicle number, names of the owner and driver, along with police helplines (100, 112, 181) and the traffic helpline (1095) on the back of the driver’s seat for passengers to see.
Despite earlier directives, many vehicles still operate without these details. Now, Police Commissioner G.S. Malik has ordered strict enforcement across the city. Violations will attract action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As per the notification, the details must be displayed in a 12×10 inch box with letters at least 13 mm tall (font size 50), ensuring easy readability.
The step comes amid a rise in crimes like eve-teasing, theft, and harassment in hired vehicles. With thousands expected to travel late at night during Garba, police say the rule will help ensure passenger safety and accountability.
