Schools, hospitals, gaming zones, malls among violators; owners warned to get approval or face action
A survey by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has revealed that 311 public assembly buildings in the northwest zone are operating without mandatory Building Use (BU) permission or GDCR regularisation.
The list includes eight gaming zones, 19 hospitals, 90 schools and colleges, nine auditoriums, 112 food courts and restaurants, 70 community halls, and three malls. Officials warn that such violations pose serious safety risks.
Of 781 buildings surveyed, 446 had BU permission and 32 were regularised, while 311 lacked approvals. Notices will be issued by September 12, directing owners to either obtain BU permission or apply for regularisation under GDCR.
AMC has also instructed building owners to submit self-declarations on compliance with safety norms. The fire department will check if the properties have valid fire NOCs.
“Public safety cannot be compromised,” a senior fire official said, stressing the need for clearance in all buildings where large crowds gather.
