Ahead of Navratri, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik has directed all industrial and private units to register details of their migrant workers, including servants, drivers, cooks, watchmen, gardeners, artisans, and labourers, within seven days.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, follows past cases of robbery, murder, and other crimes in which migrant workers were found involved. Police said some offenders had taken shelter in Ahmedabad using fake documents, while others exploited their employers’ trust before committing crimes.
Employers across factories, construction sites, textile and diamond units, and private establishments must upload worker details—including ID proof, address, and photograph—on the Citizen Portal or Citizen First app. They are also required to verify the nationality of employees and produce records when asked by police.
Any new worker hired must be registered within seven days, failing which action will be taken, police warned.
