Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani has directed civic officials to ensure that broken roads and footpaths across the city are repaired within 24 hours of detection.
Emphasising regular upkeep, the commissioner said timely maintenance would extend the life of road surfaces and keep footpaths safe for pedestrians. Periodic inspections, he noted, would also help reduce repair costs. He further ordered repairs of central verges and road furniture to make city roads safer and more durable.
The Road and Buildings Department has been asked to inspect roads 24 metres wide or more every three months, and to repair bumps and stop lines every six months. This covers stretches such as BRTS routes, Model Road Phase-I, Iconic Road, C G Road, and wall-to-wall roads of 18 metres width in several areas.
The commissioner also flagged issues such as drivers misusing newly opened left turns and the lack of municipal supervision during resurfacing works.
Road maintenance plan
According to AMC’s directives:
Thermoplastic paint, stop lines, zebra crossings, and curbs must be inspected every three months, with annual repairs.
Cat-eyes and traffic signboards should be checked every three months; broken ones replaced immediately.
Curbs and footpath enamel paint require inspection every three months.
Stop lines, bumps, and zebra crossings must be repainted monthly if needed.
