With festive markets buzzing and garba fever taking over, Ahmedabad City and District police have tightened security measures to ensure a safe and smooth Navratri celebration.
In district areas like Bopal, Ghuma and Shilaj, police will monitor 584 garba events — including 13 large commercial shows, 40 major community garbas and more than 530 traditional sheri garbas.Women’s safety and traffic management remain top priorities. City Police Commissioner GS Malik said Ahmedabad’s “safest city” reputation comes with added responsibility.
“SHE teams and Mahila police will keep close watch on miscreants,” he said.To avoid traffic snarls, district and city police will restrict heavy vehicles on SP Ring Road and SG Highway until 2 am.
“Extra staff will be deployed at big garba venues to prevent congestion,” said Ahmedabad District SP Om Prakash Jat.
Both officials warned against communal mischief during the nine-day festival. “Anyone trying to spread hatred will face strict action,” SP Jat said.
