The Government Dental College and Hospital in Jamnagar has once again brought pride to Saurashtra, winning the prestigious National Award for dental health services for the second consecutive year.The institute was recognised by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its extensive awareness programmes on oral hygiene and the harms of tobacco use.
Its outreach activities — including street plays, rallies, lectures, essay and painting competitions, and dental diagnosis camps — received special praise at the award ceremony.Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel congratulated the institute on X, calling the achievement a matter of pride for Gujarat.
“Maintaining oral health is vital for overall health. This award is recognition of the Jamnagar college’s efforts in spreading awareness across communities,” he wrote.
More than 180 dental colleges competed in the national-level contest, but Jamnagar’s Government Dental College stood out for its innovative campaigns. Jamnagar Collector also lauded the achievement, saying the award has brought “glory to the state.”
