International airlines are rolling out new routes to tap into the growing demand from Gujaratis planning festive vacations abroad.
Thailand remains the top choice, with Thai VietJet Air announcing direct Ahmedabad–Bangkok flights from December 4. The airline will operate four days a week—Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday—adding to the six carriers already connecting Ahmedabad to Bangkok: Air India, IndiGo, Air Asia, Thai Lion, Thai Airways, and VietJet.
Industry sources said the competition is likely to keep fares affordable in the short term, though prices are expected to rise gradually after September as bookings surge.
Travel consultant Manisha Upadhyay noted that inquiries for Diwali trips have already picked up. “Currently, fares for Thailand and Vietnam are relatively cheap, but they will increase in phases as demand rises,” she said.
Airlines are catering to all types of travellers—from bachelor groups and office trips to family holidays. The new VietJet flights will also enhance connectivity from Bangkok to other destinations in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam’s Danang and Phu Quoc Island, as well as Tokyo Narita in Japan.
