Gujarat has 2.68 crore registered vehicles, placing it fifth in the country, but nearly 46.57 lakh (17.24%) of these are still running without High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).
Nationwide, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 5.18 crore vehicles, while Andhra Pradesh has the highest proportion of non-HSRP vehicles at 88.80%, with almost all of its 1.84 crore vehicles lacking secure plates.
Other states with large shares of vehicles without HSRP include Kerala (74.55%), Madhya Pradesh (73.24%), Tamil Nadu (68.70%), Maharashtra (53.95%), Delhi (53.59%), and Uttar Pradesh (44.77%).At the other end of the spectrum, Jammu & Kashmir leads in compliance, with only 6% vehicles lacking HSRP plates. On average, nearly half of India’s vehicles (49.69%) are still operating without the mandatory plates.
