The Gujarat government informed the High Court that it will soon initiate direct recruitment to fill over 1,315 posts in the State Traffic Branch, with more than 200 personnel to be deployed in Ahmedabad. The move comes in response to a suo motu PIL on traffic regulation, accident reduction, and road infrastructure in the city.
However, the High Court criticized the government for failing to provide clarity on how many traffic personnel are actually required as per the state’s current population, or projections for the future. The court directed the department secretary to submit a progress report at the next hearing in November.
The government added that expert consultations are underway to assess manpower needs for the next 15 years, and a comprehensive recruitment plan will be prepared based on their recommendations.
