DEO: Conduct Surprise Bag Checks, Issues Guidelines for Disciplinary Committees

A day after submitting the preliminary report on the stabbing of a Class 10 student at Seventh Day Adventist School, the city District Education Officer (DEO) issued fresh instructions to strengthen campus safety. The DEO, who had earlier directed schools to set up disciplinary committees, has now outlined their responsibilities. These include surprise inspections of students’ school bags, motivating students towards self-discipline, and ensuring that proxy teachers or co-curricular activities are arranged when teachers are absent.Schools have also been asked to:Recognise and applaud disciplined students during class-wise prayer meetings.Sensitise all students about the role of the disciplinary committee.Display details of committee members on school bulletin boards.“Committee size should match the student strength. Efforts must be made to encourage self-discipline at the school level,” DEO Rohit Chaudhari said.Schools Remain Shut After Murder IncidentFollowing the shocking incident, more than 200 schools across Maninagar, Khokhra, Isanpur, Kankaria, and Ghodasar remained closed on Thursday after locals and parents enforced a bandh. Many schools had informed parents late Wednesday night, while police deployed security to prevent unrest.Protests EruptStudents of Seventh Day Adventist School, dressed in white, joined NSUI activists and local residents in protesting against the school management, demanding its permanent closure. Police later detained several protestors.
