Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat from August 25, during which he will inaugurate 1,449 houses and 130 shops built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at a cost of ₹133.42 crore, officials said.The project, executed under the in-situ slum redevelopment component of PMAY (Urban), is located in Sector-3 of Ramapir Tekra in Ahmedabad’s West Zone. It has been carried out under the Slum Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Policy-2013 of the Gujarat Urban Development and Housing Department.According to officials, Gujarat has already sanctioned 9.66 lakh houses under PMAY (Urban) against a target of 7.64 lakh, with 9.07 lakh units completed so far.The state government has also rolled out several incentives to strengthen both rural and urban housing schemes. From 2025-26, an additional ₹50,000 per house will be provided at the roof-cast level under PMAY (Rural), fully funded by the state. So far, 34,759 beneficiaries have received assistance worth ₹173.80 crore under this provision.Other support measures include:Mukhyamantri Protsahak Sahay Yojana: ₹20,000 incentive for completing house construction within six months of receiving the first installment (benefited 74,930 families, ₹149.86 crore disbursed).Women-focused aid: ₹5,000 for bathroom construction (82,845 beneficiaries, ₹41.42 crore spent).Additional benefits under MGNREGA (₹25,920 for 90 days of work) and Swachh Bharat Mission (₹12,000 for toilets), bringing the total assistance per rural beneficiary to ₹2.32 lakh.Gujarat has also emerged as a frontrunner in housing reforms:It became the first state to secure approval under the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHC) Scheme in 2020 by converting 393 houses into rental units in Surat.Under the Global Housing Technology Challenge, 1,144 houses have been constructed in Rajkot using advanced monolithic concrete construction with tunnel formwork.Between 2016-17 and 2024-25, the Centre set a target of 8.43 lakh houses under PMAY (Rural) in Gujarat, of which 6 lakh have been completed. For the spill-over target of 2.78 lakh houses in 2025-26, over 39,000 units have been finished, with 2.39 lakh under construction and scheduled for completion by March 2026.Since the scheme’s launch, Gujarat has incurred a total expenditure of ₹8,936.55 crore, the statement added.
