Customs officials at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport seized a Rolex wristwatch worth ₹17.13 lakh from a passenger arriving from Dubai on August 20.
According to a media report, the passenger, who landed on flight 6E1478, was intercepted at the green channel by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) based on profiling.
An X-ray scan of his baggage revealed a suspicious image, leading to a detailed search that uncovered the undeclared luxury watch.The watch was seized under the Customs Act, 1962, after the passenger failed to declare it on arrival. Officials said further investigation is in progress.
According to Customs, high-end watches and luxury goods are often smuggled in by travelers from destinations like Dubai.
