Ahmedabad is set to emerge as a global sports hub in 2025, with the city confirmed as host for three international competitions — the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, the Asian Aquatics Championship, and the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025 will take place at the Naranpura Sports Complex from August 24 to 30, with over 350 athletes from 29 countries expected to compete.
This will be followed by the Asian Aquatics Championship 2025, scheduled for September–October, featuring participation from leading swimming nations including China, Japan, and Korea.
Later in the year, Ahmedabad will also host Group D matches of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026 Qualifiers from November 22 to 30 at The Arena by TransStadia. Teams from India, Iran, Palestine, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon will battle it out for a spot in the main tournament.
Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond
The city’s sports calendar will continue to expand, with Ahmedabad also lined up to host the Asian Weightlifting Championship and the Archery Asia Para Cup – World Ranking Tournament in 2026.
Additionally, Gujarat will host the World Police and Fire Games 2029, spread across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar (Kevadia).
Most notably, India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games has been approved, and Ahmedabad has been chosen as the host city, cementing its status as one of the country’s leading international sports destinations.
