Amid IMD’s forecasts, several parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, witnessed heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning on the occasion of Janmashtami. The sudden downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, led to severe waterlogging in many areas.
In just two hours, Ahmedabad recorded 2–3 inches of rain, flooding roads and disrupting traffic. Authorities had to close underpasses at Mithakhali, Usmanpura, and Akhbar Nagar due to rising water levels.
Heavy showers were reported across several localities such as Vastrapur, Naroda, Memnagar, SG Highway, CG Road, Paldi, Jamalpur, Khadia, Lal Darwaja, Bodakdev, Iskcon, Bopal, Ghuma, and Sola. Low-lying areas like Naroda faced serious waterlogging, creating difficulties for commuters.
The IMD has predicted widespread heavy rainfall across Gujarat, with South Gujarat likely to experience very heavy showers. Officials said three active weather systems are currently affecting the state, which may prolong the rainfall spell until August 19.
Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are both under forecast warnings. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Ahmedabad, cautioning residents of heavy rainfall spells through the day.
