After a brief lull, the Southwest monsoon is set to regain strength, with heavy rainfall predicted in several parts of Gujarat from August 15, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Tuesday.
A low-pressure area is expected to form over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on August 13, due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the central Bay. It is likely to intensify within the next 48 hours.
On August 15–16, Gujarat may see light thunderstorms with lightning, winds of 30–40 kmph, and light to moderate rain. Heavy rain is likely in Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad on August 16.
On August 17, heavy rainfall is forecast for Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad. On August 18, heavy showers are expected to continue in these districts, along with Saurashtra’s Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath.
