US-based Micron’s semiconductor and chipset plant in Sanand is close to completion. Sources say production may begin in December 2025 or January 2026.
According to a media report, Approved in June 2023 as the first project under the Central government’s semiconductor mission, the plant involves an investment of ₹22,516 crore. Work is currently focused on setting up the cleanroom in the 5 lakh sq ft facility, where chipsets will be assembled, tested, and packaged (ATMP).
The plant will produce chips for RAM and NAND memory. Tata Group is building the first phase, which is about 70% complete. Once finished, Tata will hand over the site for production to start.
Originally planned for completion in 2024, the project was delayed but is now expected to start by late 2025. The company has also begun inviting bids for the second phase of construction.
