The National Highway Authority, Ahmedabad, has announced that the left wing of Shastri Bridge will remain closed for medium and heavy passenger as well as commercial vehicles starting Friday. The closure, affecting the stretch from Vishala Circle to Pirana, will continue until February 8 next year.
According to a media report, although the bridge underwent repairs and renovation earlier this year, its bearings and pedestal remain in poor condition. The police have issued a notification and suggested alternative routes.
Built 43 years ago, the bridge connecting Vishala to Narol serves as a crucial link to the Expressway and National Highway 8. Tenders have already been floated for a new bridge and an elevated corridor from Narol to Sarkhej. The proposed 8-lane corridor is expected to cost ₹1,295 crore.
