A 27-year-old PhD student from Ahmedabad, Ilesh Dhanjibhai Khadayta, studying at SVNIT in Surat, died early Friday morning after suffering severe chest pain.
Ilesh, who lived in the SVNIT hostel in Ichchhanath, felt unwell in his room around midnight. His hostel mates quickly took him to a nearby private hospital on a motorcycle, but they were told no doctor was available.
While heading to another hospital, his condition worsened and he collapsed. He was later taken to New Civil Hospital by an EMRI 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Ilesh had completed his M.Sc. and was pursuing a PhD in Chemistry. He came from a humble background—his father is a retired postal worker, and he had one brother.
