By donating his brain dead son’s organs, Ganpatbhai got the satisfaction of keeping his son alive in others.
Since I have seen my son suffering from a chronic disease for a long time, I can understand the situation of patients suffering from serious illnesses very well. Two days before ‘National Organ Donation Day’ which is celebrated on 3rd August, on 1st August, the 202nd organ donation took place at Civil Hospital. By donating the organs of his brain-dead son, the father fulfilled the motto of ‘Organ Donation is a Great Donation’.
Talking about the organ donation in 2022 at the Civil Hospital, Dhirajbhai Shrimali, a resident of Saijpur Bogha area of Ahmedabad, had been suffering from epilepsy for the last twenty-five years. Dhirajbhai, 45, was brought to the Civil Hospital for treatment through a 108 ambulance after having epilepsy on July 28. After more than 72 hours of intensive treatment at the Civil Hospital, the doctors declared Dhirajbhai brain-dead on August 01.
After the organ donation team of the Civil Hospital explained the brain-dead condition and organ donation to the patient’s relatives, his father Ganpatbhai, who was present at the Civil Hospital, agreed to donate his organs. By donating the organs of his brain-dead son, Ganpatbhai got the satisfaction of keeping his son alive in others.
Giving more details about this organ donation, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi said that a total of 202 organ donations have been made at the Civil Hospital till date. Through which a total of 664 organs have been donated. Through which 645 people have been given new life.
With the organ donation of Dhirajbhai, the Civil Hospital has so far received 177 livers, 368 kidneys, 14 pancreases, 65 hearts, 6 hands, 32 lungs, 2 small intestines and 21 skin donations.
One liver and two kidneys received from Dhirajbhai’s organ donation will be transplanted to the needy patients of the Kidney Hospital of the Civil Medicity Campus. Along with this, the heart received from Dhirajbhai’s organ donation will be transplanted to the needy patients of the UN Mehta Hospital of the Civil Medicity Campus. The donation of two eyes from Dhirajbhai’s eye donation was accepted by M&J Eye Hospital.
