An 18-year-old Class 12 student of Tulip International School in Bopal, Ahmedabad, died in a tragic road accident on Thursday morning after a speeding container truck hit his scooter near Shilaj Circle on the S P Ring Road.
According to a media report, the victim, identified as Tanay Patel, lived in Panchamrut Bungalows in Sola. FIR filed at the N Division Traffic Police Station, the accident occurred around 7:15 am while Tanay was riding his Activa scooter to school. A container truck reportedly hit him from behind at high speed, causing him to fall. His head was crushed under the truck’s rear wheels, leading to his death on the spot. Paramedics from the 108 emergency service confirmed his death upon arrival.
The truck driver allegedly fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Tanay’s father, Amitbhai Chandrakant Patel (47), who said he had dropped his son off earlier in the morning and later received a call from an unknown number informing him about the accident.
Eyewitnesses claimed the truck was being driven recklessly. After the collision, the driver reportedly ran away near Shilaj Bridge.
Inspector P A Marwada is leading the investigation. Police are checking CCTV footage from the area to identify the driver and understand how the incident unfolded.
A case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to causing death by rash and negligent driving. Tanay’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
