In a deeply concerning incident, a Class 10 student of Som Lalit School in Navrangpura allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of the school building on Thursday.
The girl sustained injuries and was immediately taken to Nidhi Hospital, where she is currently under medical observation. Doctors have reported her condition as stable.
According to a media report, family members and police officials rushed to the school following the incident. Authorities stated that the exact reason behind the attempted suicide will be known only after the girl regains consciousness and is able to give her statement.
Navrangpura police have begun a preliminary investigation, speaking with teachers, classmates, and school staff. CCTV footage from the campus is also being reviewed to understand the circumstances leading to the incident.
School administrator Pragnesh Shastri confirmed that it appeared to be a suicide attempt. “We have informed her parents and are cooperating fully with the police. The CCTV footage and all relevant details will be shared with investigators,” he said.
Navrangpura Police Inspector A A Desai added, “The student remains unconscious and is still receiving treatment. More information will come to light once she is able to speak.”
The case has once again raised concerns over student mental health and the urgent need for stronger emotional and psychological support systems in schools.
