Gujarat University released a circular outlining the rules for selecting major and minor subjects for final-year undergraduate students.
As per media reports, students cannot choose the same subject for both major and minor. However, they are allowed to take minor subjects from a different college or any GU-approved institute.
The circular was issued after the GU Teachers’ Association requested the university to set clear guidelines and prevent confusion among final-year students.
“Under the NEP, major and minor subjects cannot be the same for the students of any faculty. The choice of minor subject depends on the student’s own interest and the student can wither keep the same till semester-6 or change it after semester-3,” the circular said. The colleges can also offer inter-faculty minor subjects to the students as per the NEP guidelines.
“If a college is not able to offer a minor subject of the student’s choice, the student, with the prior approval, may obtain credit for the minor subject of his interest from another institution recognized by Gujarat University and submit it to the institution in which the student is studying before filling the examination form,” the circular added.
