August is packed with holidays—Rakshabandhan on August 9, Independence Day on August 15 (Friday), and Janmashtami on August 16—creating an ideal window for mini-vacations. Normally, a one-way ticket to Goa costs around ₹4,000, but with the upcoming Janmashtami break, fares have skyrocketed, and may climb even higher, potentially hitting ₹30,000.
Goa remains a popular getaway for Gujaratis during Janmashtami, and travel demand typically spikes just days before the festival. Interestingly, reports suggest that flying to Dubai is now cheaper than flying to Goa during this period.
The Janmashtami festival, known locally as Satam-Atham, also sees a surge in illegal gambling activities. Many from Gujarat reportedly head to Goa during the holidays to visit casinos, contributing to the sharp rise in airfares.
