A religious trip turned tragic in Dwarka on Thursday when a woman drowned in the Gomti River while taking a holy dip. Six others were rescued in time.
Seven pilgrims from Jamnagar four men and three women were bathing in the river when they started drowning. Locals and fire brigade teams quickly came to help. Sadly, one young woman could not be saved, but the other six were rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment.
This is the third drowning incident in the Gomti River within a month. Just three days ago, an elderly man was saved from drowning. On May 21, two people from Patan an uncle and his nephew died, while one person was rescued.
Despite weather alerts from the Indian Meteorological Department, such accidents are happening often. Strong sea currents near Dwarka are also flowing into the Gomti River. Many pilgrims, unaware of the danger, cross the safety barriers to take a holy dip, which sometimes ends in tragedy.
