Rajkot saw unexpected heavy rain on Wednesday, with about 1.5 inches falling in just 45 minutes, causing widespread waterlogging across the city. Earlier that day, Rajkot had recorded the highest temperature in the state at 41.4°C.
Poor drainage systems led to many roads being flooded, creating flood-like conditions and causing traffic disruptions.
Surprisingly, despite the afternoon humidity being just 33% and dropping to 29% by 5.30pm, the city still witnessed heavy rainfall, defying typical weather patterns. Rainfall levels reached 27 mm in Dhebar Road (Central Zone), 39 mm at Nirmala Road (West Zone), and 26 mm in the East Zone.
Despite the Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) efforts to improve drainage and roads, many streets are still unevenly leveled. Because of this, even moderate rain leads to severe waterlogging.
Besides Rajkot, Jetpur received about half an inch of rain, while Lodhika and Visavadar in Junagadh district also experienced rainfall. The showers were accompanied by strong winds, making the weather more intense.
