The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has witnessed an increase in pet dog registrations, with around 2,500 dogs registered so far. However, AMC officials believe this number is still low compared to the estimated 50,000 pet dogs in the city. As part of the “Rabies-Free Ahmedabad City” initiative, the AMC had hoped for a faster response to the registration mandate. Until 31 March 2025, the registration fee for pet dogs will be Rs 200, but after this deadline, the fee will increase to Rs 500.
The CNCD teams will visit local areas, interact with residents, and even consult with shopkeepers and tea stall vendors to identify unregistered pet dogs and their owners.
Once these unregistered dogs and their owners are identified, notices will be issued on the spot, urging pet owners to complete the registration process or face further action.
With registration numbers still below expectations, AMC officials are hopeful that their intensified efforts, including enforcement actions, will help achieve the goal of registering all pet dogs in the city, ensuring a safer, rabies-free environment for all.
