The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate Courses (CUET UG) 2025 will set for a major revamp following recommendations from an expert panel constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the application forms soon, allowing interested candidates to register through the official website.
KEY CHANGES IN CUET UG 2025
CBT Mode only: Starting from 2025, the exam will be conducted exclusively in computer-based test (CBT) mode, moving away from the hybrid format used in previous editions. This shift aims to enhance reliability and security in the examination process.
Flexible subject selection: Students will now have the freedom to opt for subjects in CUET UG even if they were not studied in Class 12. This change is designed to eliminate rigid subject restrictions and allow greater flexibility in higher education choices.
Expert panel recommendations: A dedicated UGC panel reviewed various aspects of the exam, including paper structure, duration, syllabus alignment, and operational challenges. The suggested changes were approved by the commission and have been implemented for CUET UG 2025.
UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar highlighted the rationale behind the changes, emphasising that the CBT mode is more secure and reliable compared to other formats.
“He also noted that the subject flexibility would encourage students to explore interdisciplinary opportunities in higher education,” as reported by PTI.
PREVIOUS CHALLENGES AND THE NEED FOR CHANGE
The first CUET-UG in 2022 faced technical glitches and score normalisation issues due to multiple shifts. The 2024 edition, conducted in hybrid mode, encountered last-minute cancellations in Delhi due to logistical concerns.
The transition to a full CBT mode aims to prevent such disruptions and improve the overall efficiency of the exam.

With these reforms, CUET UG 2025 aims to offer a smoother, more student-friendly experience, paving the way for a fair and accessible university admission process. Stay tuned for the official notification and application details from the NTA website.
