Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) today announced that it has achieved its highest passenger journey count of 2,13,735 on Ahmedabad Metro on 25th January 2025. Additionally, 1,91,529 passenger journeys were recorded on 26th January 2025.
According to GMRC, about 1 lakh additional passengers traveled on metro trains during the Coldplay concert compared to the Saturdays and Sundays of the previous two weeks. This indicates that about 50,000 additional passengers used the metro on each of these days, resulting in an extra 1 lakh journeys per day.
A record-breaking number of total passenger journeys, i.e., 4,05,264, was recorded during the recently concluded Coldplay concert at Narendra Modi Stadium on 25th and 26th Jan, 2025, as GMRC extended the metro train service till 00:30 hrs in Ahmedabad Metro (Motera to APMC and Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam). The metro trains ran with a frequency of 8 minutes for the concert.
Apart from regular 313 trips per day, on 25th January, 93 extra trips were made, whereas on 26th January, 114 extra trips were made by Ahmedabad Metro.
proper arrangements and proper coordination with the organizer, security agencies, traffic authorities, etc., were done, as a result of which no adverse incident occurred during these two days on the Metro network due to heavy rush.
This was possible due to the support of the state government, the municipal corporation, the Ahmedabad police, and security agencies, for which GMRCL is thankful, said GMRC in an official statement.
