Ahmedabad is gearing up for Kankaria Carnival, which will take place from the 25th to 31st of December 2024, at Kankaria Lake. To ensure smooth vehicular movement and minimise congestion during the festival, the Ahmedabad City Police have issued a detailed notification outlining traffic restrictions.
As per the announcement, key routes around Kankaria Lake have been declared ‘No Parking’ and ‘No Stop’ zones. Vehicles, except two-wheelers, will not be allowed to park or halt along the stretch from Kankaria Police Chowky to the Railway Yard, Khokhra Bridge, Dedki Garden, Siddhi Vinayak Hospital Crossroads, Apsara Cinema Crossroads, Football Ground, and Lohana Mahajanvadi. All vehicles must use designated parking spaces, with strict penalties in place for violators.
In addition, the two-lane road encircling Kankaria Lake has been designated a ‘No U-Turn’ zone to ensure the steady flow of traffic. Commuters are advised to plan their routes in advance and avoid making U-turns in the restricted area to prevent congestion.
Passenger and goods vehicles, generally restricted from entering the city limits until 10 PM, will face extended restrictions during the carnival. Such vehicles will not be permitted to ply between 8 PM and 1 AM on festival days. Emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire brigades, government vehicles on duty, and those directly involved with carnival programmes will be exempt from these restrictions.
The measures taken by the city police aim to ensure a safe and seamless experience for attendees while minimising disruption to residents.
