The Ahmedabad police have in a notification informed that the 800 meter stretch of road from BatrisiBhavan to Cargo Motors will be closed permanently at the request of the Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment Project.
The notification, issued by In-Charge Police Commissioner and Additional DGP Ajay Choudhary ( Special Branch), mentions that the Centre and state are involved in the restoration and redevelopment of the Sabarmati Ashram and the Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust, has been formed to oversee this redevelopment.
The notification said that to facilitate this redevelopment, the road from Batirisi Bhavan on Ashram Road to Cargo Motors will be closed permanently. To ease the commute between Subhash Bridge Circle and Vadaj, an alternative route has been provided for commuters who can travel from Subhash Bridge Circle towards Ranip Bus Stand along the 132-feet ring road. From there they can turn left onto a new road leading towards Cargo Motors and the RiverFront West Road, the notification said.
