The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is contemplating prohibiting vegetable hawkers from selling their produce within a 4km radius of the upcoming municipal vegetable markets. The AMC aims to curb traffic congestion and streamline vegetable markets in the city.
A recent meeting chaired by the municipal commissioner and zonal deputy municipal commissioners discussed the proposal, which aims to curb “unauthorized vegetable hawkers” in residential areas. “If approved, residents will need to travel to the nearest vegetable store or AMC-designated vegetable market, which could be a few kilometres away,” the senior AMC official said.
While the AMC argues that the ban is necessary to improve traffic flow and maintain order on city roads, it has faced opposition from residents who have expressed concerns about the potential impact on their daily lives.
