An AMTS bus operating on Route No. 17, travelling from Karnavati Chowk to Meghaninagar, met with an accident near Jamalpur Bridge late on Friday night after it crashed into a streetlight pole.
According to a media report, the impact of the collision left the bus driver trapped inside the vehicle, prompting a swift response from passersby and emergency teams who broke the front windshield to safely extricate him. The injured driver was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
No passengers were reported to be inside the bus at the time of the accident. The incident caused a brief traffic disruption in the area, with authorities cordoning off the spot to manage the situation and initiate cleanup operations.
Preliminary reports suggest that the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and AMTS authorities have launched an internal inquiry to determine whether driver fatigue, mechanical failure, or road conditions played a role.
Traffic police have registered a case and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area as part of their ongoing investigation.
