The sale and use of glutrap and gluboard to capture rats has been banned in the entire Ahmedabad district, including Ahmedabad city. The ban has been announced under the Animal Cruelty Act, 1960’s Section 11. The press release issued by the government stated, ‘According to Section 11 of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, there is a provision that no animal should be subjected to unnecessary pain or suffering. Accordingly, the said provision is being strictly implemented in Ahmedabad district. Glutrap, also known as glue-board or sticky trap, is a non-lethal or restricted type that is mostly used to catch rats. When mice walk or land on glue-trapped surfaces, they are unable to free themselves after being caught in the glue trap, resulting in dehydration, starvation, suffocation, and ultimately a painful death.’

‘Rodent control is desirable, but the methods used for it should not violate the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. So as not to adopt a very cruel method to control the population of rats, the sale of Glutrap by the units selling various rat trapping equipment is banned in the entire Ahmedabad district. Violators of the said instructions will be penalized under Section 11 of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. This is stated in the press release of the Ahmedabad District Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee and Animal Husbandry Department.’
