Bodakdev police have registered an FIR against the step-mother of a six-year-old boy and her parents for physically abusing him. A complaint in this regard had been lodged by the boy’s paternal grandfather.
The boy’s father, resident of Shahibaug, had separated from his wife in 2021 and got married to another woman he was in love with. He then shifted to the Science City area to live at the house of his second wife, taking his young son along. On January 17 this year, the mother of the second wife left the boy at his paternal grandfather’s house.
The grandfather stated in his complaint that at night, the boy suddenly woke up screaming. The next morning when he took the child for a bath, he noticed injury and burn marks on his body. According to the FIR, the boy told his grandfather that his stepmother’s mother used to brand him with a hot iron fork while her husband would dip his head in the toilet bowl. The child said that his step-mother would beat him up.
“After the medical and the forensic report confirmed last week that the burn injuries were due to branding, we called in the members of the Child Welfare Committee and, in their presence, took the statement of the child and sent him for counselling. The next day, we registered an FIR. We will soon take action against the accused,” said a senior police official of Bodakdev police station
