The Gujarat High Court issued a notice to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and its officials of the town planning and estate department as a public interest litigation sought the court’s order to remove hazardous hoardings erected on roads across the city.
The PIL, moved by a social worker and owner of a weekly newspaper Parvatiben Sharma, has highlighted that the city’s authorities are “neglecting or ignoring the erection of hoardings which are hazardous to the public safety and their lives.” The hoardings, it said, have been erected in violation of norms and regulation of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporation Act as well as General Development Control Regulations (GDCR).
The court has kept the notices returnable for June 21.
